East Fife have confirmed that manager John Robertson is set to remain with the Methil club beyond the summer.

The 46-year-old former Scotland international took charge of the Fifers at the end of October, initially until the end of the current campaign, but has told the club’s board he will be happy to continue in his role next season.

“I’m delighted with the news,” said chairman Sid Collumbine. “He had no intention of leaving originally and only took the manager’s job until the end of the season as he did not know what was happening with his work.

“I think he’s done an excellent job and, but for injuries and such, I think we could have been much higher up the league.

“He commands a lot of respect from the players in the dressing room and I’m delighted that he has agreed to stay with us for next season.”

Robertson is enjoying his first foray into part-time management and currently combines his day job in Inverness with his commitments to East Fife and his media work.

The ex-striker also previously managed Inverness Caley Thistle, Hearts, Ross County, Livingston and Derry City.

Meanwhile, Collumbine told Courier Sport there was little movement in relation to the club’s plans to build a new stadium near Diageo’s site at Windygates.

The £4.5 million proposal was mooted towards the end of last year and envisions a brand-new all-seater stadium complete with artificial surface, training grounds, supermarket, educational facility, sports centre and park and ride.

“We’re still working behind the scenes with the planning department but it’s taking a lot longer than we’d like,” he said.

“We still think it’s a very viable thing, good for the club and good for the area -both in terms of employment and the facilities it would bring.

“We think it would be an enormous improvement on what the area has in terms of facilities just now and we just hope we can make it happen.”
