Dundee defender Matt Lockwood is glad he will not be suffering more TV torture this weekend.
The Dark Blues travel to Greenock to face Morton and, while that looks like a tough away fixture, Lockwood would rather be at Cappielow than on the couch.
He and his Dens colleagues sit four points clear of Cowdenbeath and Ross County in the battle to avoid finishing in the relegation play-off spot.
With Dundee not playing until Sunday at home to Stirling Albion, the players spent last Saturday contacting each other regarding Cowden’s game at Raith.
It was a nervy afternoon, with the Blue Brazil leading Rovers until the 89th minute, and Lockwood revealed mobile phones were working overtime.
He admits it was a far from pleasant experience and he will prefer to be playing than viewing.
“We were obviously watching the scores coming in on Saturday afternoon as we had no game,” said Lockwood.
“All the boys were tuned in and aware of what was going on, so the text messages were flying around during and after the game.
“It is not nice to be playing 24 hours behind everyone else because the pressure was mounting, with Cowdenbeath getting another point.
“So it will be a relief to be playing on a Saturday this weekend when we don’t have to sit through a day off worrying about results elsewhere.”
He added, “When you see that Cowdenbeath were winning up until the last minute at Raith you think it is going to be a real relegation battle.
“We know we are in a fight to stay up but if results had gone differently at the weekend it could have been even worse.”‘Bare bones’ DeesLockwood answered a plea from Dundee manager Barry Smith to play in central defence on Sunday, with Rhys Weston, Craig McKeown and Gary Irvine all banned from the 1-1 draw which relegated Jocky Scott’s Albion side.
Lockwood said, “It was always going to be tough against Stirling as it was their last chance to avoid the drop.
“On paper, everyone would expect us to smash Stirling with a full-strength team, but that wasn’t possible for us.
“We had so many players playing out of position and to come from a goal behind again shows the character within the ranks.”
He added, “From our point of view, now on in it doesn’t really matter what other teams do.
“We just have to pick up as many points as we can in our remaining four games which will hopefully see us safe.
“At least the guys will be back from suspension which will be a big help for the Morton match.
“Then someone else can play centre-half. Seriously though, I was delighted to help out as we were down to the bare bones.”
Dundee’s remaining matches are against Morton (away), Ross County (away), Partick (home) and Queen of the South (away).
County, who have a game in hand over the other two, face Partick Thistle (away), Queens (away), Dundee (home), Falkirk (away) and Cowden (home).
Cowden have to play Falkirk (home), Queens (away), Stirling (home) and County (away).
