Two key components of Dundee United’s midfield engine over recent seasons may be about to be reunited at Birmingham City.
Morgaro Gomis, who left the Tangerines when his contract finished in May, secured a lucrative move to the Blues.
Gomis, who is understood to be on wages of approximately £15,000 a week, has now called for his friend and former United colleague Prince Buaben to join him at St Andrew’s.
Buaben was at one stage linked with a dual move to Brighton along with Gomis.
The Ghanaian has also caught the eye of Premiership newcomers Swansea but it now it appears more likely that he will be playing with his fellow Scottish Cup winner in the Birmingham midfield.
“I heard that the club are interested in him (Buaben), too, so hopefully in the next few weeks they can tie down a deal,” said Gomis.
“He used to play with me at United but he is a free agent as well now.”‘Best friend’He added, “He is my best friend so if he can join me at Birmingham it would make me so happy.”
Meanwhile, United’s players will report back for pre-season training on Monday.
They will do intense sessions in the morning and afternoon, with a break in between to watch the Europa League draw.
They will huddle around a computer screen to find out who their second qualifying round opponents will be.
They will be one of five seeded sides in their pot, to be drawn against one of the five unseeded teams. The identities of the clubs will be revealed shortly before the ceremony starts at noon in Nyon, Switzerland.
United will be represented at UEFA headquarters by former director Derek Robertson.
