Dundee United have received no contact from Rangers in over a week regarding David Goodwillie despite their manager Ally McCoist publicly expressing his desire to sign the Tannadice frontman.
McCoist has gone on record stating he would love the chance to chat personally with Goodwillie in a bid to persuade him to move to the SPL champions.
That has raised eyebrows among United officials, especially chairman Stephen Thompson, as there has been no approach to them from Ibrox since June 20.
While the Light Blues failed to pick up the phone, English Championship teams Cardiff City and Blackpool have moved ahead in the race to sign the 22-year-old Scotland internationalist, who is valued at £2 million by the Tangerines.
Cardiff are understood to be within striking distance of the asking price, while Thompson has had personal discussions with Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston and the Seasiders can’t be ruled out at this stage.
As well as McCoist’s comments, new Ibrox owner Craig Whyte, who is coming under mounting pressure from Rangers fans to make signings, last week claimed United are overvaluing their star asset.Cooling offBut Tannadice supremo Thompson has been bemused to hear Rangers talk up their interest when their lack of action appears to indicate a cooling off on their part.
“Rangers have not been in touch with us since Monday of last week,” Thompson confirmed.
“They asked us what we were looking for as regards a fee for David. We told them and we have heard nothing since.
“No bid from Rangers has been put on the table.”
