Slask Wroclaw are in bullish mood ahead of their Europa League clash with Dundee United on Thursday, with winger Waldemar Sobota insisting his side will knock out Peter Houston’s men en-route to the group stages.
The Poles travel to Scotland this morning ahead of the second-leg tie at Tannadice aiming to protect the 1-0 lead they hold from last Thursday.
Sobota has admitted United made it tough for them in the Oporowska Stadium where Johnny Russell and David Goodwillie passed up two great chances to put the Tangerines ahead but he feels Slask’s class will win through in the end.
The victors of the tie will play Metalurgs Skopje or Lokomotiv Sofia, and it’s clear 24-year-old Sobota expects to have another European trip to look forward to.
He said, “We are better than Dundee United and I think we proved that by winning the first game. It was a hard match at our stadium but we take a lead to Scotland.
“A goalless draw would be good enough for us but that is dangerous to play for because losing a goal would change everything. So it is much better for us to score a goal.
“Dundee United will come at us strongly from the start of the match, so we need to dominate them. They will try to hit us from the beginning but we can cope with that and I am sure the manager will come up with something special to deal with it.
“I only came off the bench in the first game but I am hoping to play for longer in Scotland. Our aim is to get into the group stages of the competition but first we must concentrate on Dundee United.”
