Dundee United have rejected another million-pound bid from Rangers for striker David Goodwillie.
The forward learned on Monday afternoon that the rape charge he has had hanging over his head had been dropped, which spurred boss Ally McCoist into action.
The Ibrox side made a £1 million-plus offer to United last month but that was rejected by chairman Stephen Thompson.
On Monday they tabled a similar offer which was also immediately booted out.
United had agreed in principle with Cardiff City to transfer Goodwillie to the Championship but a delay in his court case being dropped has led them to look elsewhere, with Kenny Miller and Robert Earnshaw signing on for Malky Mackay’s side recently. From one Tangerines to another?Blackpool are long-time admirers of the 22-year-old Scotland international and remain firmly in the hunt, with chairman Karl Oyston maintaining regular contact with United for the past six weeks.
Oyston has asked to be kept abreast of all developments and is expected to table a £2 million offer within the next 24 hours.
To conclude the deal swiftly the Championship side cash rich after their relegation from the Premiership could offer the whole amount up front.
That would then put the onus back on McCoist, who has made Goodwillie his main summer target, to come up with the cash rather than offer a staggered payment plan.
With Goodwillie now free of that threat of court action, United expect to move him on quickly and are waiting to see if interest from other clubs turns into firm offers.
