Dundee are waiting on word from Hearts to see if the Dark Blues will be able to field on-loan striker Calum Elliot in Saturday’s Scottish Cup tie against Stirling Albion.
Should they be given the go-ahead, Dens Park boss Barry Smith is optimistic the former Scotland under-21 international will be fit enough to take part.
He was injured just seconds into his Dundee debut a couple of weeks ago and it was feared he had sustained the second serious knee injury of his career.
However, the prognosis was not as bad as expected and he has returned to full training.
Smith said: ”Calum’s been back in training today. We’ve been in contact with Hearts to try and get permission to play him on Saturday.
”We’re hopeful that if we get the right answer he’ll be available.”
He added: ”He’s probably been a bit cautious because of what happened to him in the past but he had no problems in training today.”
There was also positive news on Graham Bayne.
Smith said: ”We thought it would take a bit longer with Bayney but he’s pushed himself this week and we’ve not had a reaction.
”So he should hopefully be back in full training by the end of the week, to hopefully give him a chance of playing next weekend.”
He added: ”At the moment Jake Hyde is a doubt for Saturday. We’re monitoring him on a day-to-day basis because of his concussion.”
