Dundee striker Jake Hyde has been sent for a CAT scan as he is still being plagued by headaches after being concussed against Morton two Saturdays ago.
Hyde suffered the head injury in a heavy collision with opposition keeper Dominic Cervi in Dundee’s last league game. He was forced to sit out the weekend Scottish Cup victory at Stirling on medical advice.
However, with the problems continuing to persist, Dundee boss Barry Smith says the club have decided to have the player checked out.
Smith said: ”Jake is still experiencing headaches more than a week after the incident happened so we are doing the right thing getting him the scan as it is something you don’t want to take a chance with.”
Hyde’s fellow striker, on-loan Hearts star Calum Elliot, came off the bench against the Binos to produce a sparkling 40-minute cameo performance.
Smith is hoping that will be a boost for the former Scotland Under-21 international, who is at Dens to regain full match fitness after a lengthy lay-off following knee surgery.
He said: ”Calum did well when he came on and looked strong. We know what he is capable of doing and he managed to come through that 40 minutes on Saturday so hopefully it will have given him a big confidence boost.
”We hope he will be OK for this weekend’s match with Falkirk and our game on December the third against Hamilton.”
The win over Stirling was Dundee’s third victory in a row and Smith feels the run is as important for the fans as the team. The Dark Blues had a rocky start to the season but, despite that, the supporters continued to turn out in substantial numbers.
More than 1,000 made the trip through to Forthbank on Saturday and Smith is hoping for another big attendance when Falkirk visit.
He added: ”The fans have been brilliant. Even although we didn’t have a great start to the season, they continued to turn out in numbers.
”So while the last result at home was good for the team, it was also great for the fans as well because they have stuck by us and we need them to keep doing the same thing.
”They have really shown their level of commitment to the club and they also know they are getting the same commitment from the players week in, week out. Hopefully they will get behind us in numbers on Saturday.
”It should be a good game against a Falkirk team who are second top of the league. We know Falkirk will bring different problems compared to Stirling but we are at home and we won the last time at Dens.”
Meanwhile, the Dundee FC Supporters’ Society have announced that Fraser MacDonald has been appointed as a member of the club board.
While Harry MacLean is stepping down as chief executive, he has accepted an invitation to rejoin the board in a non-executive role.
The Dundee board was scheduled to meet on Monday night but the club were keen to stress that there would be no rush to make a decision regarding the appointment of a new chairman following Stuart Murphy’s departure last week.
