Willo Flood hopes to blow Celtic’s title challenge off course after Dundee United weathered the storm at Fir Park.
The little Irish midfielder joked he was almost gathered up by the gales as the Tangerines drew with Motherwell in blustery Lanarkshire last Saturday.
Now Flood wouldn’t mind putting the wind up the Hoops when they visit Tannadice on Sunday.
”The conditions were terrible at Motherwell,” recalled Flood. ”I was nearly blown over, and that is with me having done plenty of weights in the gym recently!
”The conditions were made even worse by the fact the wind was blowing in different directions across different areas of the stadium.
”We tried to get the ball down and pass it but it was difficult. Both teams tried to play but I think a draw was maybe a fair result.
”It was a good point for us in hindsight even though we went there to win the match and were confident we could do so.
”I guess people were looking at the run of games that we had ahead of us a few weeks back (Hearts, Motherwell and next Celtic) and were not really expecting us to take many points.
”But we have managed to get four out of six, so that’s pretty decent. That is very encouraging going into a game against Celtic.”
Flood has been impressed by the way his former club have dragged themselves right back into the title race, sitting just four points behind leaders Rangers. Their last match saw them fire five goals past St Mirren at Celtic Park on Saturday and allowed them to sit back and enjoy seeing their Old Firm rivals lose at Kilmarnock the following day.
Celtic may be on song but Flood still believes Dundee United are just the team to make life difficult for the Parkhead men.
”We will be raring to go on Sunday,” he added. ”Celtic have hit good form and will be looking to make up more ground on Rangers.
”I felt it was only a matter of time before they started playing well and winning games. It is not a surprise when you look at the squad they have.
”They had a sticky patch but they have come through it well. Our job is to stop them, and we hope to do just that on Sunday.”
