Gavin Gunning has told Dundee United’s fans they can expect some home improvements at Tannadice.
The Tangerines huffed and puffed to a goalless draw against St Mirren on Saturday in a game that was described by their manager Peter Houston as ”brutal”.
However, Gunning is optimistic that when Kilmarnock come calling this evening the football will be a lot easier on the eye.
”We have been doing well in the past few weeks, but obviously it wasn’t our best game against St Mirren,” said the Irish central defender, who headed just wide from one of the few genuine chances created at the weekend.
”It was probably two points dropped and I know the fans didn’t enjoy it. But there are going to be games like that in the season.
”Next up we face Kilmarnock and we have a real incentive to get the victory because we leapfrog them in the table if we do. They are a very good footballing team, but I am sure we can cause them some problems.
”We like to play as well so it should be a good, open game. I think the fans will probably get their money’s worth this time.”
Gunning has been left scratching his head at the way most of United’s better results have come away from their own stadium this season.
He said: ”We are probably a better team away from home and I don’t know why that is. There are a few teams like that in the SPL, but hopefully we can change that and get a few decent results at home.”
Gunning has been happy with his own form and praised his defensive colleagues for helping him settle in since moving from Blackburn Rovers.
He said: ”I’m really enjoying it at the minute. Playing alongside the likes of Sean Dillon and Garry Kenneth helps.
”You rarely get a player who comes in and plays well straight away and it has taken me a little while to get used to the surroundings.
”You have to get used to your teammates, too, and I think I have now done that so hopefully there is more to come.”
Killie boss Kenny Shiels and his players head to Tannadice on a high having beaten administration-hit Rangers at Ibrox on Saturday.
United have no fresh injury worries and could go unchanged from the St Mirren game, while Lewis Toshney is doubtful for Kilmarnock.
Striker Dieter van Tornhout is set to return from suspension after sitting out the win over Rangers.
