Falkirk v Dundee: Dark Blues hoping to field former Scotland star Nigel Quashie

Dundee boss Barry Smith has moved to lure former Scotland midfielder Nigel Quashie to Dens Park.

The 33-year-old left QPR in 2010 and is a free agent so could make his debut against Falkirk tonight.

Quashie, who was capped 14 times for the national side between 2004-2007, is friends with Dark Blues defender Matt Lockwood and he helped set up the move.

Smith will put the former West Ham, Portsmouth and West Brom player through his paces before tonight’s game against Steven Pressley’s side before making a decision on whether to play him against the Bairns.

The Dundee manager said: ”Nigel is coming up so we can take a look at him. He has played at a high level and has loads of experience so he would be a really good addition. Hopefully we will have him available for the Falkirk game.”

Meanwhile, Dundee centre-half Neil McGregor will take his frustrations out on the Bairns after the Dark Blues passed up another opportunity to close the gap on league leaders Ross County at the weekend.

The ex-Dunfermline man was gutted after Dundee drew at Queen of the South to hear County dropped points against Ayr. The Staggies visit Dens on Saturday, so this is a pivotal week in Dundee’s season.

McGregor said: ”Of course it is frustrating to hear that County had dropped points when we only drew because that would have been a chance to close up on them. But it’s gone now and we have to look forward to Falkirk. They are a good side and going really well so it will be tough.

”I suppose you could say it’s a six-pointer because they are above us and we need to catch them. It is a big week but all we are looking at is the Falkirk game because that’s the most important thing at the moment.”

Defender Rhys Weston broke his nose against Queens but is expected to play.

Falkirk striker Farid El Alagui is a doubt with a hip injury, but Kieran Duffie should play despite a nose injury he received against the Accies.

Tonight’s game kicks off at 7.30pm.
