Ryan Conroy insists Dundee will still be aiming to take maximum points from their remaining matches despite suffering a crushing blow to their promotion hopes.
The Dark Blues lost 3-1 to Hamilton Accies on Tuesday and sit a whopping 15 points behind First Division leaders Ross County with just eight games remaining.
Despite that gloomy scenario, Conroy is adamant the players will be doing all they can finish the season with a flourish.
”It was a massive disappointment to lose at Hamilton like that,” he said. ”We knew it was going to be extremely difficult to catch Ross County even before that game but we still had that bit of belief.
”Whatever the situation, you still have to go into every game wanting to win. That has been the way of it since I arrived at Dundee and that won’t change.
”There are eight games to go and we will be doing all we can to take maximum points from them. So we will be giving it everything against Raith Rovers on Saturday.”
The defeat at New Douglas Park was all the more exasperating considering the Dark Blues had been gifted a fortuitous penalty from which to take the lead, the kick converted by Conroy.
The Dundee player admitted even he considered his clash with keeper David Hutton to be accidental.
”I just slid in for the ball and the keeper’s knee hit me in the face,” he said. ”I thought it was accidental but the referee gave a penalty, so we took it.
”The disappointing thing was that we didn’t kick on after the goal. We never really got going in the game at all. We were too flat and quiet.
”I don’t know how we could play so well on Saturday at Morton then perform like that against Hamilton.”
