Raith Rovers v Livingston: McGlynn’s men homing in on league safety

Stark’s Park has been a tough venue for the rest of the First Division in 2012, and Raith Rovers manager John McGlynn is determined it will stay that way for two more matches.

Raith have only lost once at Kirkcaldy since the turn of the year, and that was the new year fixture against Dundee.

Livingston are the visitors to Fife tonight, and there will only be one more home match left after that before the end of the season.

Two wins would give them a great chance of avoiding both automatic relegation and the playoffs.

McGlynn said: ”We’ve done very well at home since January and winning on Saturday against Hamilton was a great result for us. Our recent form in general has been good and we want it continue. We’ve only had one defeat in the last seven and we’re unbeaten in four.

”We’re gaining in confidence but we realise that we’re not out of the woods yet. We’ve got to be positive but there won’t be anyone getting carried away.”

Raith’s next three games are against teams who won’t go down or up Livi, Partick Thistle and Falkirk but McGlynn doesn’t believe that necessarily means it works to their advantage.

”It’s very hard to make a judgment about who are the hardest teams to play against at this stage of the season,” he said. ”We won’t be thinking about that. We’ll just be making sure we look after ourself.

”All we can do is make sure we prepare properly for every match both physically and mentally. Livingston will be tough opponents, as will every side we’ll face.”

Iain Davidson will definitely miss out after tweaking his medial knee ligament, McGlynn reported, but Raith will otherwise be at full strength.

Raith can boast an excellent home record, but Livingston can say the same about their away form. They have won their last three games on the road and scored 11 times.

Manager John Hughes has told his players it is games like this one that will determine who features next season.

He said: ”Raith are fighting for everything and if we are to take anything from this game we will need to match that first and foremost. Some people might think there is not a lot at stake for us but this is the type of game that will tell me which players are up for the fight next season.

”As well as scrapping for the ball I expect my players to pass it sharply and quickly but be stronger in the final third than we were when we lost to Ross County at the weekend.”

Jason Talbot will miss out after picking up a knee injury at the weekend and he joins Liam Fox on the sidelines, with Iain Russell a doubt because of broken bones in his hand.
