Frustrated St Johnstone midfielder Chris Millar can’t wait to see the back of August.

‘Midge’ has been forced to watch most of the month’s action from the sidelines after picking up a hamstring injury in the 2-1 defeat to Aberdeen, while the team have only won one point.

Despite that, the 29-year-old has confirmed he is eyeing a return to action after the international break and is determined to be ready for the home game against Celtic on September 15.

”I was reading somewhere that in four years we’ve only won one game in August so I don’t think August has been the best month for us,” he told Courier Sport. ”So hopefully September will bring more luck.

”I’ve got a grade two tear in my hamstring but it’s not too bad and hopefully I’ll be back after the international break.

”From the original scan, they thought it was worse than it was, but it’s not as bad as first thought. That’s definitely a positive.

“I didn’t feel it was that bad, just because I’ve had hamstring injuries before, but I’ve obviously had a couple of weeks out at the start of the season, which has been frustrating.

”Hopefully I’ll start back running this week. The first week I was told to take it easy but now it’s about getting myself ready for the game after the international break.”

Millar, who mulled over a possible switch to Australia in the summer before committing his future to the Perth club, may have watched Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Hibs from afar but believes Saints’ main problem is clear for all to see.

”I think we’ve got to take our chances,” he said. ”We didn’t do that on Saturday and Hibs have one of their first real attacks and they score. We’ve got to cut that out of the game and get back to being hard to beat, first and foremost, then take our chances going forward.

”We’ve just got to try and be a bit more solid and score goals, but we’re creating chances. (Gregory) Tade’s had two one-on-ones with the goalkeeper on Saturday and could have done a wee bit better but as long as he’s getting there and creating these chances, once one goes in I’m sure there will be a few more.”

Meanwhile, striker Stevie May has gone on loan to Hamilton Accies until January.
