Dundee administrator Bryan Jackson has revealed that Wolves have officially confirmed they will be signing Leigh Griffiths.
The Dark Blues’ star striker has done enough in training with Mick McCarthy’s English Premier side to convince them to offer him a deal.
And Jackson confessed that the news had come as a relief.
The funds from the transfer, believed to be in the region of £150,000, are desperately needed to help ease the club’s desperate financial straits.
Now, Griffiths, who bid an emotional farewell to the Dundee fans at the end of the Falkirk game on Saturday, is expected to officially become a Wolves player in the next 48 hours.
“I called the Wolves chief executive Jez Moxley in the morning as I was becoming a little nervous,” said Jackson.
“Leigh has been training with them for a few days but we still had not heard for definite whether they were signing him.
“But Jez phoned me back late this afternoon to say they intend to conclude the transfer.
“The paperwork should be finalised within the next day or two.
“I admit it is a relief. It would have been great to keep Leigh for the rest of the season as he could be the difference between Dundee staying up or going down.
“But if we had not agreed to transfer him, there may not be a club at all it was a Catch-22 situation.
“I am also relieved for Leigh that the deal is going through. It is a fantastic opportunity for him to play for a club in one of the top leagues in the world, and it is one I hope he seizes.”
