Dundee have taken former Dunfermline and Aberdeen midfielder Gary Dempsey on trial.
The Irishman is a free agent after leaving Bray Wanderers in his homeland, so is able to team up with Barry Smith’s men.
The Dark Blues are unable to sign any player just now as they are still in administration but they can field trialists.
“Gary is in training with us this week,” confirmed Dens boss Smith. “He has a good pedigree from his time at both Dunfermline and Aberdeen where he played a lot of games.
“He is one that we would certainly be interested in. Gary is a good type to have in the dressing-room as well.
“He won’t cause any disharmony among the boys, which is a big thing as we are all in this together.”
Striker Tom Brighton is also currently at the club as a trialist and will remain at Dens for an extra week after Saturday’s game with Cowdenbeath was called off.
Brighton was set to play his third and last allowed game for Dundee against the Blue Brazil, but will now face Queen of the South on Saturday instead.
“Tam is still here for another game which is obviously good for us,” said Smith. “He will also manage to get another week’s training under his belt because he has not had a lot of first-team football recently.
“That will help get his fitness up more, which is what he needs more than anything. “We are happy that he has been able to come here and do a job for us.
“I think the short stint has helped both of us and we will see what happens after that.”
