East Fife face a crunch game at Forfar tonight as they fight to stay in the second division.
The Fifers were 10 minutes away from taking three points from Livingston at the weekend, but ended up going home empty handed.
Boss John Robertson could not fault his team’s effort, but said it was time lessons were learned from defensive errors.
“I was disappointed with the result on Saturday as the team showed great spirit to fight back after a terrible start, but unfortunately we keep making the same basic mistakes defensively as we have all season,” he said.
“The players have to be mentally stronger, as we have now been in winning positions on more than eight occasions and not seen it out.
“The Forfar game will be another tough examination and we need to get something out of the game as we are now in a fight to stay in the division.”
Sitting just three points above bottom of the league Dumbarton, East Fife have lost the services of striker Stevie Crawford, who has joined Jimmy Nicholl at Cowdenbeath.
After the game was postponed on Saturday, Forfar manager Campbell hopes the stop-start spell will not diminish his side’s focus.
“Obviously we’d have been happier playing on Saturday to try and keep them going after so long, but it didn’t happen.
“We’ll see what happens and if it goes on then we’ve got to put any of the weather stuff out of our minds and just get on with the job of getting points.”
After paying tribute to veteran defender Andy Tod who is hanging up his boots to forge a new career in the police, Campbell has also confirmed the release of Paul Lunan whose work also now involves him in weekend shift work.
