Match report: Stenhousemuir 0 Forfar Athletic 1

Forfar smuggled all three points away from Stenhousemuir on Saturday, after going a goal up and being reduced to 10 men in the space of 20 minutes.

The Loons managed the only goal of the game around the quarter-hour mark, when Martyn Fotheringham flighted a free-kick in from the left for Michael Bolochoweckyj to power in a header.

Five minutes later Fotheringham saw red for what was deemed to be “foul and abusive language.”

Despite being a man down, the visitors remained in control of the first half and even had a penalty claim waved away when Dale Hilson went down in the box.

Stenhousemuir controlled the second half as Forfar legs tired, but keeper Scott Gallacher always looked settled and assured between the posts.

Simon Lynch and trialist Eric Paton had decent chances to level the match, but couldn’t break the deadlock.

Loons boss Dick Campbell said, “It was a silly sending-off for somebody with his experience but we have reacted well to it and taken all three points, which wasn’t easy.

“It is a tremendous boost because they dominated possession but I think we restricted them to two shots, we defended really well and could have had another one ourselves.

“There will be one or two people looking over their shoulder and taking notice that Forfar might be a difficult place to go.”
