Dundee boss Gordon Chisholm has indicated there will be a change of direction at Dens Park when it comes to their signing strategy.
Last summer, the Dark Blues were the second biggest spending club in Scotland behind Celtic, splashing out £265,000 on Leigh Griffiths and Gary Harkins while a host of other players were snapped up on substantial deals.
Benefactor Calum Melville has stated funds will be available for improving the squad, but there won’t be a re-run of last year’s spree.
Chisholm is determined to do things his way and that means a policy of “quality rather than quantity.”
He spent most of Monday telling 16 players they will be allowed to leave and the replacement figure is expected to be only half of that, leaving the Dark Blues to run on a squad of 23.
“We are now looking to bring new players in but it won’t be to the same extent as the club did last season,” said Chisholm.
“There won’t be the spending of 12 months ago either. That happened last summer and it wasn’t successful.
“There are finances available and I am happy with what we have. It will be more in line with the rest of the clubs at this level.
“I don’t want a squad of 30 players like we had, so there won’t be the kind of activity Dundee had last summer. I suppose it is quality rather than quantity we are looking at.”
Meanwhile, one of the players released by Chisholm, goalkeeper Tony Bullock, has agreed a pre-contract deal with Livingston and will sign for two years.
