Dundee’s squad has been stretched to the limit by an injury to Sean Higgins that has ruled the striker out of the game against Falkirk.
Higgins famously stuck a piece of steak in his boot to help him get through last weekend’s win over Queen of the South. However, he will not make it for the trip to face the Bairns, leaving boss Barry Smith to lament his lack of options.
“It’s a big blow,” admitted Smith. “Sean has been outstanding for us the last wee while, both in terms of leading the line and taking chances.
“We were hoping his injury would have cleared up by now but it has not happened and it’s just another problem we have to attempt to cope with.”
Dundee are down to the bare bones after Neil McCann played his last match as a trialist and Graham Bayne returned to Dunfermline.
“I have only got nine outfield players plus our goalkeeper Rab Douglas so the rest will have to come from the youths for this match. It looks as though one of the young guys will have to play so we will just have to get on with things.
“I think administration is really starting to kick in as far as first-team selection is concerned. We are as stretched as we possibly could be but the last thing we want to do is start complaining.
“I have a group of guys who I know will give me their all, and that has to be the case again when we go to Falkirk, who are still in the title race and will be looking to bounce back from losing to Dunfermline last week.”
