Cowden boss Jimmy Nicholl has expressed his displeasure at the SFL’s decision to move Ross County’s twice-abandoned match against Queen of the South to a neutral venue.
Floodlight failure at Palmerston caused the game to be halted on both occasions and the Staggies were to make the long journey south again tonight.
However, the Highland club appealed to the SFL who agreed to a change of venue and the match will now take place at Stirling’s Doubletree Dunblane Stadium.
That decision has irked Nicholl whose side are locked in a battle with Ross County to avoid finishing in the first division relegation play-off spot.
“It seems they change the rules whenever they want to,” he said. “If you complain about something, it appears you just get your own way.
“It annoys me as during the bad weather some teams travelled two or three times and suffered late call-offs and had to turn back.
“But because this is about floodlights, they have made an exception. It doesn’t really make sense.
“At least with the game being at Stirling I will be able to take some of our training before heading to see the second half of the match.”
Floodlight failure was never going to be a factor as Nicholl’s Blue Brazil drew at Palmerston on Saturday afternoon. That hard-earned point came at a cost with Kenny Adamson and Colin Cameron both receiving red cards.
They, along with Craig Winters, will be suspended for this weekend’s vital game against Stirling Albion and with Archie Campbell having returned to Rangers following his loan spell, Nicholl’s resources will be stretched to the limit again.
“Considering we finished the game on Saturday with only nine men, I suppose we were happy to settle for a point,” he said. “However, we will now be without Kenny and Colin for Saturday’s match as well as Craig Winters who is suspended for the last two games.
“We will also be missing Archie Campbell who has gone back to Rangers. He scored some important goals for us including the two on Saturday.
“He had been a bit frustrated as I had left him on the bench recently but I decided to play him in his last game for us and it paid off.
“He is a great credit to Rangers and he heads back to Ibrox with our thanks and blessings.
“So, we will be short-handed again at Stirling on Saturday, but that is something we have become used to this season.
“However, I am hopeful of having Mark Baxter and John Armstrong back from injury to bolster our defence.”
