Craig Conway believes living up to the name of Dundee United propelled the Tangerines to their famous victory.
On the books at Tannadice are players from Scotland, England, the Republic of Ireland, Ghana, France/Senegal, Switzerland, Germany and Argentina.
They may be a rainbow coalition but Hampden’s man of the match believes unity has been decisive in the club’s march to Scottish Cup glory.
“We are a close team and I think that has been crucial,” said the Ayrshire-born winger. “Everybody’s mates with each other, including the manager!
“We all get on so well. There are a lot of different nationalities but we mix brilliantly.
“To win the cup means so much to every one of us. I know what everyone thinks of the ’94 team and now we have emulated them.
“So we all won it together and we will celebrate together.
“I think this team deserved a trophy. Every year we have got better and better. This has easily been the best season for years at United.”
Conway, who scored the second and third goals to add to David Goodwillie’s opener, felt the weight of expectation on his shoulders going into the game against Ross County.
“Some fans were telling us we could be legends,” he said. “It was hard to take in.
“I think because we were expected so much to win put pressure on us. It was daunting but you have to deal with it.
“Some people were saying ‘Oh it’s just Ross County and you’ll beat them’ but it’s not as easy as that obviously.
“I wouldn’t say we were nervous but I felt we needed to score as soon as possible.
“I wouldn’t have liked to have gone into the last 10-15 minutes with the scoreline at 0-0.
“From a personal point of view, to score two goals was just brilliant. The place just erupted.
“I was taken aback when I saw the fans. I remember the CIS Cup final and there seemed to be at least double there. What a sight!
“The noise they made was brilliant. They never stopped singing.”ExcitedConway disclosed that manager Peter Houston’s team talk was delivered with gusto.
“He came in with a plastic cup and asked us what it was,” he said.
“He then kicked it and said we wanted to win the real cup. It was a bit blurry and I think he maybe got a wee bit excited!
“Then, he just said to continue what you have been doing the whole season and we would be all right.”
Conway is on the possible list of transfer targets for other clubs and is known to have been interesting Middlesbrough boss Gordon Strachan.
His brilliant display on Saturday will have added a few extra pound notes to his price tag but he says the club’s priority should be sorting out Houston’s future.
“We don’t even know what the manager is going to do,” he said. “We need to get his situation sorted first and I am sure the chairman will be trying to do that.
“We will enjoy the cup win for the next couple of weeks then see what happens next.
“I am flattered to be linked with that kind of stuff. When I started the season I probably wasn’t as fit as I was before and it took me a while to get going. Then I got my first Scotland cap and I took off.
“I have played the best I have ever played but I still feel I can improve a lot and be more consistent.
“I would also like more goals. I know I scored two in the final but would like more over the season.”
