Raith Rovers manager John McGlynn has taken time out from a break in Spain with the rest of the club’s back-room staff to congratulate Fife neighbours Cowdenbeath on their promotion.
Danny Lennon’s side beat Brechin City 3-0 on Sunday in a play-off to secure a place alongside Raith in the first division.
The result means the Kirkcaldy club will have another set of Fife derbies, in addition to their games with Dunfermline, to look forward to next season a development McGlynn is eagerly anticipating.
He said, “I would like to pass on my congratulations to Danny Lennon and the Cowdenbeath players for securing back-to-back promotions.
“Like us, when we were promoted last year, they will have to adjust to life next season in the first division but fair play to them on a magnificent achievement.”
He added, “Of course, it means we will have more local derbies to look forward to.
“They are great for the clubs and fans as there is always a fantastic atmosphere at these games.”
McGlynn may be taking it easy in Spain but there is work going on behind the scenes to add to the Raith squad for next season.
As usual, the Stark’s Park gaffer was keeping his cards close to his chest over the identities of his transfer targets but he hopes to be more forthcoming soon.
He said, “We are awaiting final clearance from the SFA but we are hoping to announce two new signings on Thursday or Friday.
“We are also keeping our fingers crossed that we will be able to reveal another piece of signing business next week.”
Rovers have begun lining up pre-season friendlies, with a game away to Forfar Athletic confirmed.
McGlynn will take his men to Station Park on Tuesday, July 13, for a 7.30pm kick-off.
Rovers are also set to travel to play Montrose on Saturday, July 10, and Berwick on Saturday, July 17, although these are yet to be confirmed.
With work being carried out on the Stark’s Park surface, Rovers have opted for away friendlies to allow it to recover.
Further fixtures are likely to be added ahead of the start of the season on July 24.
