St Johnstone’s fourth-round Scottish Cup tie against Hearts on Saturday was an early victim of the returning wintry weather, although there was nothing wrong with the Tynecastle pitch.
The game was called off around lunchtime after ground staff at the stadium discovered a number of burst pipes.
The tie has been rescheduled for Tuesday night at 7.30pm, with Hearts confident they can win their race against time to make the necessary repairs.
As spokesman for the Edinburgh club said, “The pitch was in perfect condition, but public safety is our priority.
“Work started on Saturday morning to repair the affected pipes and we are sure the tie will go ahead on Tuesday.”
Falkirk’s tie with Partick Thistle also fell to the weather.
A morning pitch inspection deemed the pitch unplayable and the teams will now try again on Tuesday, along with the Queen of the South v Brechin City, another Saturday postponement.
