Colin Calderwood has been sacked as the manager of Hibs after this defeat by the Pars.
Calderwood had been in the post for little more than a year, but Austin McCann’s winner which left Hibs just a point off bottom spot proved too much for the Edinburgh board, who announced on Sunday that the former Nottingham Forest manager was “being relieved of his duties”.
The Pars had not won in nine going in to the match, but McCann’s early goal put an end to that miserable run.
Six games on the bounce Dunfermline had lost the first goal, so manager Jim McIntyre was particularly pleased his side broke through first.
He said: ”We spoke about the amount of times teams get the first goal against us it’s hard to recover and stats back that up.
”We also spoke about being tight and not gifting teams goals, which we have done in the past couple of months.”
McCann’s goal was his first in over 100 games for Dunfermline and came in only three minutes.
The dangerous Paul Willis did well to get space on the right and crossed superbly for McCann to volley home from six yards.
Andy Kirk brought out a fine save from Graham Stack later in the half, but that aside it was Hibs who had the pressure.
Despite that pressure the Pars defence looked composed and when beaten, had goalkeeper Paul Gallacher to thank for a couple of saves from Leigh Griffiths and Garry O’Connor.
John Potter played his part well in the rearguard action and was delighted with the clean sheet.
He said: ”Our recent results have been down to individual errors it’s as simple as that. We’ve not been defending well enough.
”We knew if we could put that behind us we’ve got players that can cause problems.”
