Dundee United’s fears after Gary Mackay-Steven suffered ankle knock

Dundee United feared they had two players with broken bones after Saturday’s game against St Mirren.
Scott Severin has since been confirmed as having suffered a triple leg-break but, at the time, the Tangerines also had concerns over young winger Gary Mackay-Steven, a summer signing from Airdrie United.
Tannadice coach Gary Kirk said, “Gary took a kick almost as soon as he came on the park but played on.
“When he took his sock off after the game his ankle area was badly swollen.”
He added, “The physio looked at it and was worried there might be a break so we arranged for an X-ray to be done.
“We have just got the results back now and, and thankfully, it’s all clear.”
Mackay-Steven may now have a chance of featuring against Celtic at Parkhead this weekend.
“He is a doubt but he might be okay,” said Kirk.
