Blyth Spartans 1 Cowdenbeath 4: Johnston impresses for Jimmy Nicholl’s side
ByThe Courier Reporter
Cowdenbeath got off to a winning start in their pre-season games with a 4-1 success away to Northern Premier League side Blyth Spartans on Saturday.
Beath boss Jimmy Nicholl had two trialist strikers on show but it was a forward from his under-19 squad, Craig Johnston, who caught the eye with a second-half double.
The Fifers fought back from being a goal down at half time to notch four in the final 23 minutes, with John Armstrong and Chris Kane their other marksmen.
Nicholl takes his squad to Northern Ireland for another friendly against Linfield at Bangor on Saturday before meeting St Mirren at Central Park three days later.
