Brechin have been dealt a blow with the news that Callum Tapping will miss the rest of the season.
The 21-year-old former Hearts midfielder sustained a knee injury during a game against Stirling Albion back in September.
He was initially expected to be out for a month however the problem refused to go away and the player was referred to a specialist who has now confirmed the injury was worse than first feared.
Brechin boss Ray McKinnon confirmed: “Callum Tapping is out for the season.
“It is a big blow with the specialist discovering a tear in his cruciate ligament.
“He will need an operation and I am absolutely gutted for him.
“Callum will be a huge loss to us.”
Meanwhile, McKinnon will not be pursuing his interest in former Scotland and Celtic star Derek Riordan.
The striker had been training with the Angus outfit and had recently appeared as a substitute for City against Stranraer and Ayr United.
McKinnon had spoken to the player’s agent about prolonging his stay until January to put himself in the shop window but Riordan has decided to try his luck elsewhere.
The manager added: “It is unfortunate as Derek is obviously a good player but we will not be taking it further.”
