Annan Athletic v East Fife: Fifers seek to build momentum

East Fife will be hoping to build on a much-needed home success when they travel to Annan this afternoon.

The Fifers had only won one league game in front of their own fans all season going into last week’s game against Montrose, but goals from Ross Campbell, Kevin Smith and Jon McShane earned them a thoroughly deserved second win in eight attempts at Bayview.

The victory meant Gary Naysmith’s side consolidated fourth spot in the table, and will surely have boosted confidence ahead of today’s trip to Galabank where they hope to put some distance between themselves and the clubs below them.

“Statistics are about how you look at them and if you look at our home games, we have only lost two,” he explained.

“Obviously we need to get more wins than draws but if you get a couple of home wins then you’ve only lost two games in 11 or 12 and that’s decent form.

“I felt we were always comfortable in the game against Montrose and never ever thought we were going to lose a goal.

“Although we weren’t playing brilliantly going forward, I felt we were always in control of the game and we have to build on that.

“We tried to be a bit more attacking because as good as we’ve been defensively recently we realised that we hadn’t been creating as much as we wanted.”

Midfielder Alan Cook made a surprise return from injury ahead of schedule last week and could again find a spot on the bench, while Naysmith admitted that Jon McShane is pushing for a starting slot after his input as a second-half substitute last week.

“He got himself a goal and an assist so it’s definitely given us some food for thought for the Annan game,” he added.
