A win over Queen of the South at Central Park sparked Cowdenbeath into life in the Championship this season, so the Blue Brazil could be forgiven for hoping a similar success down in Dumfries will do likewise today.
Cowden had taken just one point from their first six games ahead of their last encounter with Queens in September, but a 2-1 victory started a run of games in which they took seven points from a possible nine.
Since then though they have only won one of their last six and sit just four points ahead of bottom club Livingston, albeit with a game in hand.
Cowden boss Jimmy Nicholl will therefore be keen to try and take something from Palmerston this afternoon as they seek to climb out of the bottom two.
“When we last played Queens in September it was on the back of a 5-1 defeat at Tynecastle and with four regulars out injured, but the lads selected turned in a great performance and won the game 2-1 to give us our first league win,” he commented.
“It started a good run for us but since then James Fowler has been given the manager’s job and they have continued to win games regularly.
“The performance they had against Rangers last week was a very good one, but we will be planning how to create the sort of problems we gave them at Central Park.”
Cowden will be without Marcus Fraser and Declan Hughes, who have returned to Celtic and St Mirren respectively after their loan deals came to end, while John Armstrong, Sammy Stewart and Kenny Adamson are all expected to remain sidelined through injury.
Dundee United loanee Kudus Oyenuga and Rangers’ Callum Gallagher are available as their loans are not up until next month, although Cowden are hopeful some agreement can be reached to extend their stays at Central Park in the coming days.
