Cowdenbeath’s packed festive schedule continues at Central Park this afternoon against Dumbarton and the Blue Brazil will be keen to close the gap on the visitors with a win.
Jimmy Nicholl’s side have been busy over the past week and will be hoping to put Tuesday night’s disappointing 2-0 loss to league leaders Hearts aside as they go into back-to-back home games over the next week or so.
Raith Rovers are the visitors in seven days, but Dumbarton are first up in Fife and Nicholl would love to see his team repeat the feat of a week ago when they shocked high-flying Queen of the South at Palmerston.
“I have no doubt that few people outwith our fans gave us much of a chance against Queens but the lads gave everything and defended superbly keeping any errors to an absolute minimum,” he stressed.
“It was a result we deserved and the match against Dumbarton is a very big fixture for us.
“If we can produce the same sort of performance as we put on at Dumfries we can win it and that is our aim.”
Victory over Queens moved Cowden up to eighth in the table and a win today could move them to within one point of seventh-placed Raith depending on their result at Falkirk – ahead of next week’s Fife derby.
Cowden should have on loan Dundee United striker Kudus Oyenuga back after he missed the Hearts game after his wife gave birth, while fellow loanee Calum Gallagher should also be available from injury.
