Forfar Athletic are set to complete a deal for defender Michael Travis later today, the club confirmed yesterday.
The former Livingston and Arbroath stopper impressed manager Dick Campbell in a couple of outings as a trialist in November, and the 21-year-old is expected to put pen to paper on a contract at the Angus side’s final training session of 2014 this morning.
Travis’ acquisition will come as a boost after the news that left back Jim Paterson is set to sign for League One rivals Dunfermline this week, and the club moved to clarify their stance over that move yesterday.
A statement on the club’s website said that the Loons had made no secret of the fact that Paterson had only signed a short-term contract on his return north of the border from Bristol Rovers, and had hoped the former Aberdeen man might stay beyond January.
“Dick Campbell had been in discussion with Jim over the past couple of weeks about extending his stay at Station Park until the end of the season and in fact it had appeared that this was a distinct possibility,” the club added.
“However, the Pars came on the scene last week offering Jim a return to a full-time position in the game and not surprisingly he has decided to take up that option as he was perfectly entitled to do as a free agent once the registration window opens on January 3.”
The club added that Paterson will leave with their best wishes if he decides to make the move to the Pars.
