East Fife manager Gary Naysmith believes his side have given themselves something to build on as they prepare to face promotion rivals Albion Rovers.
The Fifers stopped a run of three straight defeats with a creditable 0-0 draw against Queen’s Park last week and it perhaps could have been more had striker Kevin Smith buried a chance late on.
All things considered though, Naysmith was happy enough with a point and he will be looking for signs of further progress when they travel to Cliftonhill this afternoon.
“The first half of the season was disappointing and I’m not going to lie to anybody about that,” Naysmith conceded.
“We underachieved as a team but we had a meeting with the players and said that’s gone now.
“We set ourselves a certain number of points to get in the second half of the season, and we said that the second half of the season is like a new season for us.
“So I think the Queen’s Park game gives us a lot to work with.
“We need to get better and we need to make the squad stronger but that will come as we get players back, we have different options available and we can play people in their natural positions.”
Naysmith was hopeful of strengthening his squad last night ahead of today’s game, although he suggested it may be “same again” if the deal he was working on failed to materialise in time.
The Fifers have been boosted by the news that defender Fraser Mullen will be available for this afternoon’s match, despite fears his yellow card last week might rule him out.
Mullen will face a suspension after reaching the disciplinary benchmark, but the former Hibs and Raith full back’s ban will kick in next weekend.
