Raith boss pleased with team’s turnaround in fortunes

Raith Rovers manager Grant Murray is refusing to get carried away after his side racked up their third straight league win at the weekend.

The 2-1 win at home to Dumbarton moved the Kirkcaldy club to within four points of fifth-placed Falkirk with a game in hand, and right back into the hunt for a promotion play-off spot.

Perhaps more importantly for Murray though, it also continued Rovers’ recent revival after a run of four successive league defeats and it is that kind of consistency he has been searching for.

“Sometimes you need a wee bit of luck, sometimes you need something to kick-start a wee run and I thought we got that against Falkirk,” he said, referring to the first game of Raith’s three-game winning streak.

“We did well to beat Cowdenbeath and credit to the players, we missed a week due to the weather but we’ve managed to continue that consistency to pick up three points against Dumbarton.

“It’s three good wins back-to-back but that’s all it is, and we’ve got to focus on Saturday against Alloa now.”

A win at Alloa this weekend would be their best winning run in the league since the start of the 2010/11 season, when they beat Partick Thistle, Queen of the South, Dunfermline and Morton in their first four First Division fixtures.

Rovers ground out their latest win at Stark’s Park, holding on to a 2-1 advantage to secure the three points, and Murray felt it was richly deserved despite a late Sons onslaught.

“We played better down at Dumbarton and came away with nothing, but we were fantastic in the first half to get 2-0 up,” he said.

“You knew Dumbarton were going to throw everything at us but we saw the game out and I felt we handled it well.

“The game started to open up a wee bit in the second half but even before they got their goal back we were still creating chances and we should’ve had a third if I’m being picky.

“We got into good areas and possibly should have tested the keeper a bit more, but as a team and as a back four I was delighted with the players.”

Meanwhile, the club’s board of directors have called an open general meeting which will be held in the Raith Suite at Stark’s Park on Thursday, February 12, at 7.30pm.
