Dunfermline v Stenhousemuir: Ryan Scully reckons Pars are on the up

Shot-stopper Ryan Scully insists there’s plenty more to come from Dunfermline under John Potter after securing their first win in seven games last time out.

The Pars, who host Stenhousemuir this afternoon, had slipped off the League One pace in previous weeks, but fans will be hoping the 2-0 win at Ayr will provide the spark that their side need to go on a run.

That victory at Somerset Park was also Pars boss Potter’s first triumph in charge, and Scully believes the players are finally beginning to reap rewards from the changes the manager has put in place.

“Everybody has been buzzing around the place after getting the win against Ayr, so we’ve just got to start battling away and trying to get the three points every week,” he explained.

“Performances have been good but it’s just been a case of getting the goals, but I think it was a perfect performance against Ayr.

“Their manager said that we bullied them as well, and that’s a big change.

“We’ve had plenty of possession but teams have been able to bully us a wee bit, so we feel physically better.

“We’ve been doing a lot more gym sessions as well, and we’re starting to see improvements.

“We’ve been doing double sessions and they’ve been helping a lot.

“It was something that we never really did at the start of the season, but it’s now been a good six weeks or so that we’ve been doing it and we feel a lot fitter and stronger for it.

“It wasn’t as if we were unfit before but this has added a little bit of steel to us.

“Fitness will be important because we’ve got a few midweek games coming up, like Brechin, so it’s just a case of preparing right.

“It’s just about knuckling down and trying to get another three points on Saturday.”

One change at East End Park that has affected Scully directly is the appointment of former Rangers and Scotland keeper Andy Goram as goalkeeping coach, and the 22-year-old reckons the man known as ‘The Goalie’ will help his development immensely.

“It’s not been that long since Andy has been in so he hasn’t been able to implement what he wants to do really yet,” he continued.

“But it’s good for me that Andy has come in.

“He’s a legend of a goalkeeper so it’s good for me to draw on his experience.

“Andy has got his own ideas of what he wants to do, and I listen to everything he wants me to do because he’s got loads of experience.

“He’s made sure that he doesn’t want to change too many things, especially at this time of the season, so it’s about maintaining what we’ve been doing and maybe adding one or two things so I’m looking forward to him.

“But it’s a wee boost for everybody.

“He’s a big character and he’s got a lot to add to Dunfermline.

“I remember one or two bits and pieces about when he was playing, and obviously his games against Celtic are the ones that spring to mind.

“But it will be good to ask him a few stories because he’s been down at Manchester United as well.

“It would be good to touch on things like that, so I’m looking forward to working with him.”

Forward Ryan Wallace is expected to miss out again this afternoon as he recovers from a niggling injury, while defender Ryan Williamson is on the comeback trail after his dislocated knee but will not be risked.
