Raith Rovers defender Dougie Hill believes his side can sabotage Dundee”s “revenge mission” on Saturday and secure the Fife club”s first division survival.
Centre-back Hill scored the only goal when the two sides met on Wednesday night in Kirkcaldy.
The result edged Raith seven points clear of the relegation play-off spot currently occupied by Ayr United, and extinguished Dundee’s faint hopes of winning promotion to the SPL.
While Hill is aware Raith will face a backlash from the Dark Blues at the weekend, he is confident his injury-ravaged side can pull off another big result.
“It was a massive victory against Dundee on Wednesday and while we are not mathematically safe yet, we are near enough there,” he said.
“Dundee had a lot of the ball without really creating anything. Iin fact, I cannot really remember them having a shot on goal.
“It was a bit of a midfield battle with not a lot in it, to be honest. We had the better chances but they had most of the ball.
“The game will probably be remembered most for the appearance of 49-year-old Bobby Geddes in the Dundee goal.
“I thought he was excellent and made a great save from Jamie Mole and right at the death he pulled off a double stop to deny him again.
“Thankfully, though he could not stop my own effort.
“That was my second goal this season but I would warn the fans not to expect any more,” Hill laughed.
Considering Wednesday’s game was Raith’s third in just five days, and they had a patched-up team, they finished the stronger against a Dundee side which could afford to start with on-loan Rangers and Celtic players Andrew Shinnie and Ben Hutchinson on the bench.
Hill believes it is the work ethic that manager John McGlynn has instilled in the players which has helped them pull off some great results against the odds this season.
“We now face Dundee again on Saturday and while they can no longer win the league, we have beaten them twice in big games for them recently so they will be out for revenge,” he said.
“We are not a team of superstars but we are all hard workers and we have guys who can come in and do a job.”
