Pars ready for massive month, says boss John Potter

As far as football clichs go, taking each game at a time is one of the oldest in the book.

But that’s very much the mantra for Dunfermline boss John Potter this week as his side head into what is undoubtedly a make or break month for their promotion hopes.

Saturday’s amazing comeback victory over Stenhousemuir pushed the Pars back into fourth spot in League One, and the Fife club’s next four fixtures are against teams who all have their eyes on a play-off spot at least.

A trip to third-placed Forfar lies in wait this weekend, before an away game at league leaders Stranraer is sandwiched in between two midweek fixtures with fifth-placed Brechin.

“It’s going to be busy,” Potter admitted.

“We’ve got Brechin twice because of the rearranged game.

“But if you ask any player they would rather play all the time and it’s always good if you can go into that on a winning run.

“If you keep winning games it’s a good place to be, and that’s what we’ve got to look to do.

“It is a big month, there’s a lot of games coming up, but we’ve added to our squad and we’ve got the squad to cope with it, I think.

“We just have to try and keep winning games.”

Potter knows that wins over their rivals would see them take points off their rivals, but the Pars manager maintains that his focus is purely on individual games and individual results at this stage.

He added: “We know where we are in the league, but I generally think about going into the last quarter and then seeing where you’re at.

“Then you can start looking at other teams.

“I think if you look at other teams too much you can take your eye off what you want to do.

“We need to start winning games.

“If we win games we’ll climb the league, it’s as simple as that.

“But the way the league is, it’s very competitive with all the teams at the moment, and everybody can beat anybody, home or away.

“It is a competitive league.

“But if we do our job, no matter what’s happened in the other games, we’ll start climbing the league.”

The Pars were also expected to be boosted last night with the competitive return to action of Ryan Williamson in an Under 20s fixture against Kilmarnock.

The defender has been sidelined for several months after dislocating his knee cap, but he is not too far away from coming into Potter’s thoughts for a first team return.
