Dundee United have made provisional arrangements for an open-top bus tour and city centre reception should they lift the Scottish Cup on May 15.
The club’s director of communications Derek Robertson was quick to stress the team are making no assumptions about victory, but said it is necessary to have plans in place.
If the Tangerines win the trophy, the team will make the traditional bus tour through Dundee on Sunday, May 16, arriving at the City Chambers at lunchtime.
Just as in 1994, the squad will appear on the balcony to raise the cup to the crowd.
The programme for speeches and any other activities has not yet been set, but the players will later re-board the bus to head for Tannadice for their fans to welcome them back to the ground.
Mr Robertson said, “Although we don’t want to tempt fate, it is important we have arrangements in place should we win the cup.
“Plans have been discussed with the city council and there will be a celebration held in the City Square on the Sunday if United win, followed by something back at Tannadice.
“Fans will be able to get into the ground from 2pm to get a seat to welcome the players back.”No assumptionsHe went on, “We have had the full co-operation of the city council and the city centre manager, but I must stress that these plans are obviously still provisional at this stage and we are making no assumptions about winning the cup.
“I am sure Ross County will be making similar arrangements up in Dingwall.
“You can’t just leave these things until the last minute because there is health and safety to think about, along with policing issues and staffing for opening up Tannadice.”
TV presenter and United fan Lorraine Kelly said she is anticipating the final with a “mixture of excitement and terror.”
She added, “Its not going to be an easy game and Ross County will be very tough to beat.
“I actually missed our cup win in 1994 because I was so heavily pregnant I was told by the doctor it wouldn’t be a good idea to attend there would have been a good chance of my daughter being born on the terraces at Hampden.
“I will obviously be at the game this year along with more than 20,000 United fans and will be hoping we can bring the trophy back to Dundee.”
The city council confirmed there will be a civic reception for the team should they win at Hampden, with the details to be finalised following the result.
