Pars’ Steve Bell needled by Achilles injury

Steve Bell has revealed he could need an injection to help him overcome an Achilles injury and he hates needles.

The Dunfermline midfielder told Courier Sport yesterday he will find out on Friday if the jag is required.

Doctors are due to assess the injury he picked up in the Alba Challenge Cup tie against Arbroath a week past Saturday.

The 25-year-old limped off in the 82nd minute of the game at East End Park to be replaced by his mate Nick Phinn.

He said, “I was taking somebody on down the line and I went to push off and I just felt it pull a wee bit.

“I didn’t want to overdo it, so I just came off. It’s just really sensitive to touch.

“It’s a bit worse than I thought it was going to be, which is a bit disappointing.

“It’s got better, but it’s not going away, so I maybe need to get a wee jag in it to help it along. Hopefully I’ll get that on Friday.

“It’s not guaranteed that it’s going to happen, but it’s looking that way.”

Bell admitted he wasn’t particularly looking forward to an injection and, having had a few before, knows they are not for the faint of heart.

“I don’t like needles,” he said.

“It’s sore, because they go right in and then they move it about, which is not nice.

“You feel it moving about inside.”SuspensionThe one consolation is the injury couldn’t have come at a better time for the former Dundee United, Queen of the South and Stirling Albion player.

He was suspended for the first two league games against Falkirk and Morton, who are managed by his old boss Allan Moore.

Bell said, “I picked up a yellow card in the second last game of the season against Morton and it’s been carried over.

“The gaffer told me at the time, which wasn’t what you want to hear.

“They are two games I didn’t want to miss when the fixtures came out.”

The Pars player said early season injuries were becoming something of a regular occurrence for him.

“I don’t know why, but I have had a tendency to get an injury early on in the season and then as the season progresses I don’t get them,” he said.

“I don’t know if it is to do with pre-season, or what.

“I had a knee injury when I first came here two years ago and then I had an ankle injury last year in the first couple of games.

“Everything else is feeling fine.

“Hopefully I’ll be able to start training by the end of next week if everything goes well.”
