Dundee’s financial woes will almost certainly see on-loan St Johnstone midfielder Jamie Adams return to McDiarmid Park ahead of schedule.
The former Kilmarnock man should have been staying at Dens until January but it is expected that his deal will be one of the first to be cut short if, as expected, the troubled first division club enter administration this week.
Saints boss Derek McInnes said, “I haven’t heard anything from Dundee regarding Jamie but if the rumours are true there’s a strong possibility he could be back with us this week.”
It may not have been planned, but Adams’ Perth return will enhance the Saints squad if his recent performances in a dark blue shirt are anything to go by.
McInnes said, “We’ve had Jamie watched in at least six of his games unfortunately I’ve not been able to see him myself and he’s got stronger as the loan period has gone on.
“He has done well at centre back, as well as in the middle of the park. The good thing for us is he’s stayed fit and has got a run of games under his belt, which is why he went there.”Murray’s woesMeanwhile, Murray Davidson’s ill fortune with the Scotland under-21s has continued.
After being forced to pull out of last week’s first leg of their European Championship play-off against Iceland, he also had to withdraw from Monday night’s return leg at Easter Road.
“Murray’s not had much luck with Scotland,” his club manager admitted. “He overstretched in a tackle in our last game against Hibs and got a groin strain, but we had hoped he would be fit for Scotland.
“It’s a massive game for the under-21s. He was desperate to be involved and we were desperate to see him involved but unfortunately he wasn’t fit enough to do himself or Billy Stark justice.
“We’re hoping he will be able to train with us later in the week and be available for the Inverness match.”
Marcus Haber and Peter Enckelman have also both returned to McDiarmid. Haber played for 20 minutes in his senior debut for Canada against Ukraine on Friday night, while Enckelman withdrew from the Finland squad with a slight thigh strain.Forfarshire CupA Saints team half filled with first team players will face Dundee United this afternoon in a Forfarshire Cup tie.
One definite starter will be Scott Dobie, who is looking to force his way into the side for his first SPL start at the weekend.
The former Scotland striker said, “I had niggles which held me back in pre-season but I’ve been fit recently. Now I’m just waiting for my chance.
“All I can do is keep training hard, do well in closed-doors games and hopefully catch the manager’s eye. I’m a 32-year-old footballer who has been around so I don’t think I need to prove myself to anybody, but I do need to show the manager I’m match sharp.
“It’s already mid-October and I haven’t started a league match, which isn’t what you want after joining a new club. Hopefully it won’t be too much longer before I feature.”
