League-leading Dunfermline FC up there on merit says Jim McIntyre

Dunfermline manager Jim McIntyre has delivered his side’s first quarter report card and has declared himself satisfied with their start to the season.

The Pars sit top of the first division, and despite the fact they lost last time out against Queen of the South, McIntyre is still pleased with the way his team are playing as they prepare to face Ross County at East End Park on Saturday.

“You never know how things are going to go but we are right up there at the moment on merit,” he said.

“We are pleased with the start we have made but we cannot afford to take our eye off the ball.

“We have a home game coming up and we want to get back to winning ways after losing at Queens. Two mistakes cost us on the day but we are not too hung up on how we played.”

McIntyre also admitted that the international break came at exactly the right time after three key players were injured last week.

The rest has helped them ease towards recovery without missing too many fixtures. “The international break has been a good thing because we picked up injuries in a reserve game against Rangers last week,” added McIntyre.

“Neil McGregor is struggling for Ross County after turning his ankle, while Austin McCann and Alex Burke (both medial ligaments) are definitely out.

“Jack Ross is also not fit.”

Derek Adams’ Staggies have made an erratic start to the league season but McIntyre still believes they have enough quality to pose a big threat on Saturday, especially after securing their place in the Alba Challenge Cup Final last week by beating Partick Thistle on penalties.

“Ross County are a good side,” McIntyre said.

“They have had a slow start by their standards but they secured a great result last week to take them into the cup final, which will have given them a big boost.

“They have a bit of power and physique about the side but they also have a lot of good footballers and are one of the best passing teams in the league.

“They have been together for a wee while now and they know each other’s strengths so I am expecting a tough, tough game but one we are looking forward to.”
