Dundee FC refused entry to an unofficial Dunfermline FC fans website due to having enforced cutbacks because of administration.
Supporters behind DAFC.net were denied Press access to the Scottish First Division clash between the Dark Blues and Dunfermline on Saturday as a result of Dundee going into administration.
Many Dunfermline fans get weekly match updates on DAFC.net but its organisers were forced to post a message on Friday telling supporters there would not be any news on the game due to Dundee refusing them free entry.
The message said, “Have just received notice from DAFC that we are not getting access to Dens Park tomorrow. Note that the official site will still be there so check out www.Dafc.co.uk for details.
“Have no idea why, we have been going there for years without any trouble.”
Brian Duncan, one of the people who run DAFC.net, told The Courier, “We were disappointed when we found out we were not getting access to the press facilities. I don’t know if this was because the club are in administration just now but I will be taking it up with them.
“We have many Dunfermline fans who check our website and forum so they didn’t get updates from our site on Saturday.”
He continued, “I was told that Dundee charge £19 for away fans, which I think is quite steep. Dunfermline charge £16, so I feel £19 is too much. We could have paid the £19 but I feel that it’s too expensive and we would not have got access to things like team sheets.”
DAFC.net received a host of comments from disgruntled Pars fans once they discovered they would not get updates of the game, which ended 2-2.
One fan wrote, “I would suspect the administrators have asked what benefit this is to Dundee FC and come to the conclusion there is none.
“As a clinical business decision they are probably right. However, it is the wrong decision.”
Another said, “Seems a very petty act for a club who would want as many people as possible to add to their coffers.”
A spokeswoman for Dundee FC said the club received a fax from Dunfermline FC asking for nine press passes and felt that number was “just laughable.”
“Two of these requests were from the unofficial Dunfermline website,” she said. “This was refused so we then received another fax asking for seven all from the official Dunfermline website.
“Any other time we would have given all the press passes but Dundee are in administration just now and we’re trying to save our club. We had elderly people donate £200 at the game on Saturday and we receive nine press passes that’s just laughable.”
