Keeper Lucas Birnstingl apologises to Montrose boss
ByThe Courier Reporter
Runaway Montrose keeper Lucas Birnstingl has offered to get on a return flight to Scotland.
However, the man who darted across the Atlantic on Sunday after a nightmare afternoon where he let in a goal from Arbroath’s goalkeeper David Crawford and was dismissed for giving away a late penalty, won’t be coming back to Links Park.
Manager George Shields explained: “I had a chat with Lucas and he was feeling very low after Saturday’s game.
“He also has been suffering from home sickness and that was a major factor in his decision to simply go home.
“He has apologised for his actions and offered to come back. However, we do not feel that is a decision he should take just now.
“We will cancel his registration and that will allow him to start again in Canada if that is what he wants to do.”
