Montrose manager George Shields has asked his men to start delivering some consistency to help them climb the League Two table.
Last week’s 1-0 loss at home to East Stirling has heightened concerns among the Links Park faithful at the wrong end of the table, and a run of just one win in 14 has seen them fall to within two points of bottom spot and the prospect of a play-off to stay in the SPFL set-up.
Despite that though, Shields reckons his team have played well against the division’s top teams this season and is looking for another good showing away to fourth-placed Berwick Rangers today.
The Gable Endies’ only win since the end of September was against this afternoon’s hosts and a repeat of that victory would ease some of the pressure on Shields and his players.
“We have shown ourselves to be a very decent side against the promotion contenders and hopefully that will be the case again down at Berwick,” he commented.
“We beat them and should have beaten both Queen’s Park and Albion Rovers and put in a great comeback from two goals down to Arbroath so the capability is there.
“However, we need to start delivering at a high level consistently.
“If we can do that we will start winning games and move up the table.
“Berwick are on a good run just now but we can go there and win if we play at the high levels we are capable of.”
Shields said last night that he was hoping to have an unnamed trialist in his squad for today’s game, although long-term casualties Paul Watson, Stephen Day and Leighton McIntosh all remain sidelined.
Former Dunfermline striker Blair Henderson is likely to make his Berwick debut this afternoon after putting pen to paper on an 18-month deal from junior club Bonnyrigg Rose.
