Raith Rovers 4 Forfar 2 (aet): Rovers come out on top in extra time
ByThe Courier Reporter
Calum Elliot scored twice for Raith Rovers.
Raith Rovers needed extra time to book their place in the next round of the League Cup with a 4-2 win at home to Forfar.
It was the League One side who opened the scoring a Starks park when Gavin Swankie found Danny Denholm, who finished from a difficult angle past Raith debutant Kevin Cuthbert.
But the hosts were level within ten minutes when Christian Nade linked up with Ryan Conroy, who was able to slot his shot into the bottom right corner.
Rovers took the lead just after the hour mark when Nade was fouled in the box and Calum Elliot stepped up to finish the resulting corner.
But Danny Denholm drew the Loons level when he headed home a Gavin Malin cross from six yards out.
The scores remained level at full time and it took two minutes of extra time for the next breakthrough.
Elliot got his second of the afternoon when Martin Scott found the former Hearts frontman in the box to give the hosts a vital lead.
Forfar pressed Raith for another equaliser but an own goal from Derek Young three minutes from time killed off any hope of a comeback.
