Raith Rovers defender Dougie Hill will go for surgery to cure the groin problem that has kept him out of action so far this season.
The 29-year-old was a regular at the heart of the Kirkcaldy defence last season and was the man-of- the-match in their Ramsdens Cup final success over Rangers back in April.
However, he has not kicked a ball since pre-season.
Manager Grant Murray brought in former Rangers player Ross Perry on a short-term deal as cover last month and it looks to have been a wise move.
Murray said: “We have had to wait a while for Dougie to get an operation date but it is all looking good for Thursday.
“He will obviously be out for some time afterwards as he gets his fitness work done but it is a step in the right direction.”
Meanwhile, Rovers have brought in another Rangers youngster on loan.
The deal went through at the last minute on deadline day with winger Barrie McKay now a Raith player until January.
The 19-year-old has made more than 40 appearances for Ally McCoist’s side and previously had a loan spell at Morton. He has also been capped at Under-18, Under-19 and Under-21 level for Scotland.
