Brechin boss Ray McKinnon is still weighing up whether to offer former Dundee striker Leighton McIntosh a deal at Glebe Park.
The 21-year-old front man was released by the Dark Blues at the end of last season and is on the look-out for a new club.
The free agent turned out for Brechin in their 2-1 Forfarshire Cup defeat to Forfar on Thursday night and McKinnon is keen to see him in action again before reaching a decision.
And while his side may have lost to their local rivals, McKinnon insists there were plenty of positives to take from the game, including a sparkling debut from on-loan Aberdeen midfielder Jamie Masson.
The manager said: “We have a friendly match next Tuesday and I will have another look at him (McIntosh) then.
“He has not played for a while and is not match fit.
“But it would certainly not be fair to judge him on the basis of just one game, so we will assess him again next week.
“The match may have ended in defeat, but it was still a valuable exercise and I was pleased with the overall performance.
“Jamie Masson made his debut for us and I thought he was outstanding, so there are tons of positives to take from the game.”
Meanwhile, Forfar’s victory may have come at a price.
Summer signing from St Johnstone, Andrew Steeves, had to be helped from the field early in the second half with a hamstring problem, and he now looks set to be missing for several weeks.
Forfar manager Dick Campbell said: “We have already lost Aaron James due to a facial injury, so it will be really disappointing news if we lose Andrew as well.”
