Scotland Under-21 midfielder Ryan Gauld has been highlighted as one of the best young players to look out for in this season’s Champions League by respected football magazine Four Four Two.
Despite plying his trade with Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon’s B team since making a life-changing £3 million move from Dundee United earlier this summer, the playmaker has been named in manager Marco Silva’s squad for Europe’s elite competition.
Sporting kick off their Group G campaign at Celtic’s conquerors NK Maribor on Wednesday night and will also take on Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea and Schalke.
Gauld dubbed Mini Messi has been chosen as one to keep an eye on in the Champions League.
Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling, Ajax playmaker Viktor Fischer and Schalke’s Max Meyer also feature in the magazine.
Speaking recently, Sporting president Bruno de Carvalho admitted he has been delighted with Gauld’s progress since joining.
