East Fife boss Gary Naysmith reckons the fact Elgin City head south without a manager is unlikely to work in his side’s favour.
City travel to Bayview this afternoon just days after Barry Wilson handed in his resignation following a string of poor results, but Naysmith believes that factor will not boost his own team’s chances of capitalising.
Quite the opposite, in fact.
“I think it makes it more difficult that Barry Wilson isn’t there,” he told Courier Sport.
“I wish he was still there really because you never like to see anybody losing.
“I listened to a radio interview and you understood why he left, but for us it was bad timing because you normally get a reaction from the players if a caretaker manager comes in or a new manager comes in.
“That’s just another element for us but we should be confident of getting a result.
“We’ve taken four points out of six and the lads should have confidence and believe in each other.”
Naysmith took great heart from his side’s last gasp 3-2 win at Berwick last Saturday and admitted he is unlikely to tinker too much with that winning formula.
He added: “It was the first time this season that I was able to name the same 11 players just through injuries.
“We beat Arbroath up there and I got injured, and it’s been difficult ever since, but it was the first time I’ve been able to name the same team.
“I think that’s what the other teams have had.
“If you look at Arbroath, the majority of their games they’ve had the same 11 and you tend to find that if you are getting results players aren’t injured.
“You tend to find if you are going through a sticky spell everybody has got a wee niggle or a strain.
“But the lads that are in just now are in possession of the jerseys and they’ve picked up four points from six so barring any injuries it could be same again.”
