Forfar assistant boss Ian Campbell admits last weekend’s break came at exactly the right time for his side.
The Loons had a free Saturday as they were not involved in Scottish Cup action.
That allowed Campbell and his twin brother, manager Dick, to put the players through their paces on the training ground and also allow some key players to recover from injury.
All of which means Forfar will travel to Stenhousemuir today in confident mood as they look to continue to pressurise Morton at the top of the League One table.
Campbell said: “The break came at a good time for us as it has allowed some key players to recover from injury.
“We will have a near full squad available for the game at Stenhousemuir with Stuart Malcolm, Danny Denholm and Jim Paterson all available for selection.
“Derek Young is still out but hopefully he will return in the next two to three weeks.
“Michael Travis has done well for us in his two games as a trialist and we have to decide whether this is the right game for him to play his third and final one.
“We know it will be a really hard game against Stenhousemuir.
“We have had them watched and they are an improving side and we will show them immense respect.
“But we are a decent side ourselves and we will be looking to continue our good run.”
Ian took a sabbatical from his assistant manager role at the start of the season due to business commitments.
However, he returned to his brother’s side for the cup game against Cowdenbeath at the start of last month.
That match ended in defeat as did the next against Morton so Ian was delighted when Forfar then drew against Brechin and beat Ayr in the last two games.
He said: “I missed it when I was away but I couldn’t give 100% commitment to Forfar and it was best that I stepped aside for a while.
“However, I am now able to put the time in again and it is great to be back at what is a really good club.
“Thankfully, we have done well in our last two games to get the monkey and my brother off my back.”
